Jack's Reminiscing

12/17/2007

Judy uncovered a file folder that had many of my military papers and letter that I wrote home to my mom and dad while I was in the army in Germany. How funny were my writings, many were very short, and kind of repeated the subject from one letter to the next. I thanked her several times for stamps, I think one way to encourage me to write was to supply me with stamps.

I also found my first application for McDonald's Restaurant. I started out at .65 cents an hour, wow, great pay, yea right, of course back then for forty five cents you could buy a hamburger, french fry and a small drink. I started at the McDonald's in Elkhart, Indiana. It was at 130 North Main Street. I started out as a grill cook, my trainer was an older man named Bill. My first day at work was on the 6th day of July 1965. They only had a few items when I started, sometime in 1965 they added the fish sandwich.
