Filming in Columbus, Wisconsin

How exciting! The new Johnny Depp movie,
Public Enemies, is being filmed right here - just 13 miles from our home, in Columbus, WI. There's some new tax incentive to draw movie-makers to Wisconsin for the tax breaks - so there will probably be more to come. But WOW! This one is the BIG one - Johnny Depp in our backyard, practically. Oh - he's playing John Dillinger.

We went up to Columbus on Sunday to see how they are getting this big town (population under 4500) ready for all the activity. Storefronts are being changed, cobblestone streets are being laid (a roll-out pad), etc. This store, originally a Tattoo parlor, is now Fowler's Bridal shop. Guess there weren't too many tattoo parlors back in the 30's.

And here's the bank they are getting ready for the famous bank robbery scene that occurred in Greencastle, IN on October 23, 1933. How funny - we come from Indiana and now they are filming an Indiana event in Wisconsin. Go figure.

This is the street they laid down. It was neat to see it. I grew up on a cobblestone street - Clinton Street - in South Bend, Indiana. This one was rolled down - it's like a rubber mat. Sort of like laying sod, I imagine. It was really neat to be there and see where all of it is going to be filmed. And exciting to hear so many people talking about it.
