Taste of Madison

We always look forward to the Labor Day weekend, and especially to the Taste of Madison around the state capital square. But this year we were really looking forward to it because Amy came up to spend the weekend with us! We spent several hours at Taste of Madison and enjoyed perkedeel jagong from Bandung (Amy and I, not Jack!), a brat (Jack, of course), Amy tried the mummy shrimp and the firecracker shrimp that were yummy and a beef kabob, not so yummy. I had the quac and chips from Pedro’s and we all had Bluephies chocolate chip cookie dough eggroll, yummy.

I’m trying the ke-raa from a Thai place. Not bad, but nothing to get excited about.

Me and Amy showing you some of the sites

From the steps of the capital, looking west (I think) you can see Lake Mendota – or is it Lake Monona?

Here’s a video showing you a brief look-about and you can almost hear me narrating if you have your volume turned up loud enough

We had so much fun listening to the music, relaxing and enjoying the food, but our time ended badly. As we left, we had to step over a chain that separated the grass from the sidewalk, and as Amy stepped over, it swung back and scrapped her shin. By the time we crossed the street it was swelling and turning black-and-blue, unbelievably fast! We got to the car and got an ice pack on it right away and she kept it elevated till we got home. The quick ice treatment reduced the swelling considerably. But poor Amy limped the rest of the weekend and had to keep up the cold compresses. Sunday we went to church, had lunch at Jimmy John's, and played Wii much of the day. Jack fixed us yummy brats, chicken breasts and corn for dinner. By Monday mwas walking okay and the bruising never did get as bad as we expected, but it still tingled and her skin felt taut on the drive home. This is sooo unusual - since I'm always the first one to get injured! Poor Amy. But we wewre glad that she could stay a couple of nights so we could play nurse.
