Have you lived in Arizona, or visited there a lot? We'd love your comments and any input. After 3+ years in the winter wonderland, we're considering moving to the Phoenix area, maybe Chandler or Gilbert. The housing there is going for great prices now, and we want to be closer to Melissa and Alex in LA. But Jack and I have never even visited the state! We plan to be there, looking at townhouses, on April 19. In the meantime, write us and tell us what you think of the area. We need help!
Originally from the Chicago area, we have visited AZ for 25 years now, and have lived here in NE Phoenix for 15. There are thousands of things to do and see here, we keep on finding new things that catch our interests. The only "So called" problem with Phoenix is the summer heat which can go into the 100's on a regular basis. It is really no big deal because you just adjust, and air conditioning works very well here. Housing is at it's lowest point right now, most of the homes on the market are foreclosures, and I would recommend buying a single family residence over a townhouse. You will only pay a little more and get a whole lot more for your money, and have better resale advantages down the line. A townhome/condo would be good if you are going to leave for the summer. LA and Vegas are only a 5-6 hour drive away. If you are over 55 and it is just the 2 of you, I would recommend Sun City or Sun City West. The home prices there are the lowest (100k-150k buys you a beautiful ranch home) because they draw from a limited audience. The amenities are fantastic along with social programs, pools, golf courses, exercise facilities and all kinds of clubs. It is nice to have a social structure for new newbies. These 2 communities are in the NW suburban area, and have very low taxes because they do not support a school system. The older homes there still look like brand new and the community is kept up immaculately. It is the best bang for the buck and a great community. The ideal time to move here is in November-December as the weather is perfect and you can get used to the heat so gradually that you won't even notice it. I would rather be Hot in Phoenix, than shivering in the midwest. Most of the people you meet in Arizona are from other states who have moved hear for the weather. The first question everyone asks is "Where are you from?".
ReplyDeleteWe are related to the Hanlon family in Indiana and would be happy to talk to you at length about anything Arizona.
