Decoration Day in Alabama

May 16 was 3rd Sunday of May at Richardson's Chapel in Alabama, and Debbie, Amy, Laurie and I all went down since it was the first time Mom was there beside Dad. She passed away November 1, 2009. (ignore how my photos all say 2009, it's 2010 - dumb camera). Decoration Day was started in the south right after the Civil War, and Memorial Day wasn't a national holiday at the time .so all the cemeteries chose their own date for remembering loved ones. Our family met at the cemetery on Saturday, placing flowers, pulling weeds, cleaning up and making the sites look nice.

Mom's side has fresh sod on it, by the end of summer, it will be nice and green too. Thanks so much to Bill White for taking care of this for us!

The Shaws and Killens certainly have their own area of this cemetery. Shaw was my grandfather's family, and Killen, my grandmothers.

Aunt Sue picked out color-coordinating red and white roses this year. Everything looks so beautiful.

After all the work on Saturday, Susan & Doug had us over for a cook-out and family gathering
